A driver in Altoona was able to escape her Chevy Cobalt before it caught fire Friday morning, while traveling west on Colonel Drake Highway off of Route 36.

The driver pulled over after smelling smoke; that’s when smoke began coming out from the dash, causing the driver to get out of the car just in time, before flames started coming out from behind the dash and under the hood.

The car would end up completely engulfed in flames seconds later.

The driver, who was alone in the car, was not injured.

Logan Township Police, Newburg Fire Company and AMED responded to the scene.
