Downtown Altoona is welcoming another new business.

The Clay Cup is officially opening on Monday, Mar. 20, 2017,  but Thursday folks were able to enjoy a warm cup of coffee during it’s “soft opening.”

The new coffee and pottery shop is located right downtown on 11th Avenue, a location owner Sarah Vogel has had her eyes on. For five years she waited for a downtown location to open up, where she could start her dream business.

“I’ve wanted to be a part of the revitalization of downtown Altoona and I think a coffee shop and a place where people can gather and bring the community together would be ideal,” Vogel said.

Not only can you enjoy coffee and snacks, in a few weeks you can also take part in some pottery painting.

The Clay Cup allows folks to get creative with pieces of pottery that can be glazed and then fired in the kiln. Vogel plans to offer water color classes as well in the fall. She also sells unique watercolor cards, shirts, and hand built clay mugs, all made by Vogel.

The clay cup is open from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 7 am to 9 pm on Friday. There are also weekend hours.
