The Altoona Fire Department spent Thursday morning handing out coats at Penn Lincoln Elementary School.

Firefighters from Local 299 handed out 150 coats to the children at the school.

This was the first year that the department participated in ‘Operation Warm Coat,’ which helps to provide winter coats to kids in need to help fight the cold.

“It’s excellent, I mean, knowing that they are going to be warm going to school everyday should put a smile on everybody’s faces,” Patrick Miller, president of Local 299 said. “Especially us. We love helping out the community any way that we can. It’s great to see it happen.”

The department raised $4,500 for ‘Operation Warm Coat’ this year.
