Cross walk held on Good Friday

More than a dozen people took a walk with a cross in Punxsutawney today.

It started around 11 a.m. at the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church, on its way to a Good Friday service at noon.

The pastor who led the group says one of their parishioners brought up the idea for this year after seeing it done by other churches, and a second man made the cross.

He says he wants to bring people’s attention to the sacrifice made by Jesus.

“It represents the walk Jesus took up the hill of Calvary to make that sacrifice. He was crucified on Friday and that of course leads to what we will observe Sunday, Easter Sunday, the day that commemorates the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ,” says First United Methodist Church associate pastor Michael Coates.

The group made its way down Mahoning Street to the FUMC, where the pastor from One Life Church was to conduct the service, Coates said.
