A Grampian couple accused of stealing funds from a local fire company was sentenced Tuesday morning.

A Clearfield County Judge gave Scott and Jennifer McCracken 10 years probation as part of a plea agreement made with the Grampian-Penn Bloom Fire Company.

The couple was arrested back in 2015 for stealing $4,000 from the fire company by writing checks to themselves and a family member.

The fire company says they first found out about the missing money after an audit in 2013. The fire chief says they took a major hit in donations,  but the incident did not stop their day to operations.

“It hasn’t hurt us in the long run it probably helped us because it’s opened our eyes. Fire whistle goes off we’re still getting trucks out, still protecting the community. As far as I’m concerned as fire chief that’s all that matters,” explains Nick Selner, Fire chief.

The fire company here says they now have extra precautions in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again. They’re keeping a closer eye on the finances and performing audits on a semi annual or quarterly basis.

The two must also pay restitution and are not allowed to be involved with any fire companies in the future.
