Couple sentenced for locking children in cages

A Huntingdon County couple was sentenced Thursday for locking children in dog cages.

Nicholas and Linda Chamberlain have been sentenced to 6-23 months in jail after accepting a plea agreement with the District Attorney.

The couple was accused of locking at least two foster children in dog cages. Pennsylvania State Police Huntingdon officers say they received a call back on June 19th about a 13-year-old refusing to go home from a neighbor’s house. Upon investigating, police found Linda and Nicholas Chamberlain would lock that child  and a 6-year-old sibling in a dog cage when they misbehaved.

The attorney for the children, said the plea agreement was allowed to help the children move on. However, he said he was upset and disappointed the couple took no responsibility. Judge Zanic said he accepted the agreement with regret.

The three foster children in their care are now in new homes.

The sentence is back date to July 22, 2016, meaning probation could start soon pending a mental health evaluation.
