Couple and infant found dead

Two adults and a baby were found dead in a house on the 700 block of Thomas Avenue in Johnstown Thursday afternoon. Investigators believe the couple might have been dead for a week. The child likely died 3 or 4 days later from starvation and other health complications.

A witness told WTAJ he believes the adults died of an overdose.  Friday afternoon Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan and Coroner Jeff Lees announced the initial findings of their investigation.

Police did find evidence of drugs including heroin.  Authorities say Jason Chambers, 27 was found in the living room.  Chelsea Cardaro, 19 was found upstairs along with a five-month-old child named Summer.

Police detectives questioned neighbors in the Kernville section of Johnstown.  Some stated they thought the family had gone out of town for the holidays so they did not suspect anything.

“You know, any time we are dealing with infants and children it always raises the emotional level of everybody here sitting at the table. It was a heart wrenching case for everyone to work,” said county coroner Jeff Lees.

“We want to get it out there that if you see something, say something,” said Johnstown Police Captain. Chad Miller. “If you hear something going on in your neighbors house, and you’re suspicious, call somebody to check it out. It never hurts to have something checked out. It might be nothing but it could be something and you’re going to save somebody’s life.”

Police also say that they were called to revive Chambers with Narcan back in November. That led Child and Youth Services to investigate in early December but they found that the baby was in good care.
