A county jail in our area has plans to implement a new program that will ensure safety and save tax dollars.

The program, called the Guardian Radio Frequency Identification, will have inmates at the Bedford County Correctional Facility wearing wristbands connected to WiFi. The wristbands will keep an automatic log of where inmates are at all times, holding correctional officers accountable for making rounds and keeping head counts accurate.

“In time this is going to, in my opinion, it’s going to reduce the amount of money that we’re spending on paper, on lawsuits, on retraining of employees, and it’s going to increase the timeliness and effectiveness at the correctional facility,” Josh Lang, the commissioner chairman in Bedford County, said.
