The State Health Department is reporting only sporadic cases of the flu in Pennsylvania, but doctors say the virus often spreads during the holiday season.  Now, a local organization is trying to help residents get prepared.

Centre Volunteers in Medicine says more than 12 percent of county residents don’t have any form of health insurance that would help them pay for a flu vaccine. So,  the group of volunteer doctors and nurses, is asking the community to help out by donating money.

The agency says $20.00  will help cover the cost of a flu shot. Centre volunteers has expanded to include uninsured people who work in Centre County, but living in neighboring counties without free clinics or similar programs.
