Hundreds of people in the Milesburg community are still cleaning up after flood waters ripped through their homes nearly two weeks ago.
This Thursday, several state and county agencies are again reaching out to help.
A community outreach event will be held on Thursday, November 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Freedom Life Church in Milesburg. It’s open to anyone impacted by the Bald Eagle Valley flooding.
Officials from various agencies will be on hand to educate residents about community programs and avenues of assistance available for help.
Local churches and nonprofit groups will continue their outreach through the event.
Centre County commissioners said so far, 332 people have reported flood damage to their home.
Some local nonprofit groups are looking for more financial donations to give to those families affected. The “Helping Other People Excel,” or HOPE group, in Milesburg, Interfaith Human Services through their Displaced Residents Fund, Howard Fire Company and Freedom Life Church are all places you can reach out to for donations.
County officials encourage residents to come forward so folks who want to make donations have a better idea of what items are needed.
“What are people missing? What are people, what have they lost? What items can they no longer recover? What are their fueling situations going to be heading into winter? What is their housing situation going to be like heading into winter?” Natalie Corman, Centre County Deputy Administrator, said.
For more information and services for immediate needs, contact the Community Help Centre’s 24-hour hotline: 1-800-494-2500 or the Centre County Office of Adult Services: 814-355-6768.
Residents can also get a tetanus shot during the outreach event on Thursday.
