Communities kick off Thunder in the Valley events

Thunder in the Valley is the biggest event of the year for Johnstown.  This year is the 19th year for the event.  If the weather cooperates, organizers are expecting 200,000 people throughout the four days.

In conjunction with the event, Ebensburg held their 12th annual “Wheels and Wings” event Thursday night.

Organizers say up to 250 cars, trucks, or motorcycles registered for the show.  A panel of judges awarded trophies to the top three cars or motorcycles in several different categories.  Folks also competed in their “wing off” competition to see who had the best wings.

Both events are fun for the communities, as well as an economic opportunity not just for downtown Johnstown and Ebensburg, but the entire region.  When motorcyclists and families come to visit they stay in hotels in Johnstown and in the surrounding area.

Organizers say they also spend money at local restaurants and shops, and they visit some of the attractions in the area.

Throughout the next few days if you are planning to head down to the event you can expect to hear live music from regional and local bands.  There will be food and shopping available at the “Biker Mall.”  Also there are designated areas for kid-friendly activities.

All motorcycles get to park for free throughout the event, which is spread out throughout downtown.

Organizers say the visitors love coming from out of state for the event because of the friendly atmosphere.
