A committee in Grampian is asking area residents to help chip in for their fireworks display next month.

We have more on why they need help to brighten up the sky.

Organizers say they want a big fireworks show for the 40th year for the Grampian Days Homecoming.

The committee has now put a wooden thermometer display at the stoplight to show their fundraising efforts.

Grampian-Penn-Bloom Homecoming Committee treasurer Linda McCall says they’ve raised about one-third of the money for the $3,500 display, set to wrap up the 5-day celebration on Saturday, June 25, at the park.

McCall says the Grampian Church of God is also planning a benefit spaghetti dinner benefit for the fireworks fund on June 11.

President Elaine Elensky says jars have been placed at a few businesses, and they’ve sent out letters to get sponsors.

Elensky says people look forward to the fireworks, but they cost more than what’s usually in their treasury.

“We don’t do it every year. We’ve done it recently more like every couple years, and so especially because of this being the 40th year, we wanted to do it,” says Elensky. “It takes a lot of money to put on some fireworks and we’re just a small community, so we like to have some fundraisers, and have people contribute towards that.”

Elensky says R&R Fireworks of Houtzdale is doing the show, which could last about 30 minutes.

Organizers are also planning a bible school and a concert with songs paying tribute to late committee member Ralph Woodel, Elensky said.
