The owner of Corner Coffee Shoppe in Richland Township said the shop has roots that date back to the 1960s and he wanted to pay tribute to that with the new, retro design.

They’ve spent about $150,000 to add a new floor, ceiling and tables. They also plan to update the kitchen and remodel the exterior.

Owner John Riccilli said the construction hasn’t stopped people from coming to eat. He said he’s excited to honor the restaurant’s and the city’s history.

“We really feel like we bought a piece of Johnstown history, so that was one of the exciting parts and the reason we ended up buying the Corner Coffee Shoppe,” said Riccilli. “I love the area. I’m all about Johnstown and I want to make sure it continues to be a great city.”

The owner said they’re hoping to expand the coffee shop in the future and are accepting applications for more employees.
