A large mock training exercise is planned for Saturday, July 25.

Beginning at 10 a.m. volunteers who signed up to be a part of the newly formed Clearfield County Sheriff’s Posse will receive training how on to search for a missing child.

The drill will be conducted at the Greenwood Club Property located in Pike Township, Clearfield County.

Volunteers will be put to the test after a child walked away from a picnic site and not seen for several hours.

The wooded area for this mock search is known to contain rattlesnakes, so the posse has been advised to wear proper boots and clothing.

The purpose of this exercise is to provide posse members with practical experience in searching a wooded area for a missing person along with any articles the person may have left behind.

Clearfield EMS, medical teams, and other first responders will also be on hand.

Sheriff Wes Thurston came up with the idea for the posse late last year.

Posse members will help the sheriff and his deputies respond to natural disasters, search for missing children or other endangered people, as well as in gathering information and performing other non-emergency tasks.
