DuBois City Council members talked about two new grants on Monday night.

City manager John “Herm” Suplizio says a $1.25 million state RACP grant will put astroturf on the outfield at Showers Field, and also cover phase one of a new “all-purpose” Miracle Field for handicapped kids.

The new field could get a different name by the time it is built and will also be used for girls’ softball, Suplizio said. Meantime, Showers Field currently has grass, not artificial turf.

Suplizio says he went to Harrisburg again last Tuesday while seeking another grant.

“Our hat’s off to Senator Joe Scarnati, getting us those couple grants that we have been announcing the past few council meetings. Another one tonight, $100,000 to do an Act 537 plan, which is to look into our sewage plant,” says Suplizio.

Suplizio says the grant will fund a study on whether to fix or replace the sewage plant.
