Starting Monday, new taxes from the state’s budget plan go into effect, which includes a hefty tax on cigarettes.

The price per pack will rise from $1.00 to $2.60. That means the state’s cigarette tax will go from tied for the  nation’s 23rd highest with Ohio and Delaware, to the nation’s 10th highest.

The tax is supposed to generate about $430 million to help balance the state’s budget.
