A child is in the hospital after being hit by a car.
The 11-year-old Elk County Catholic Middle Schooler was crossing Bucktail Road after getting off the bus Thursday afternoon when a car passed that stopped bus hitting the child.
Police say the bus was fully stopped, with it’s stop sign extended and lights flashing.
The child was flown to Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital. The extent of her injuries are unknown at this time, but they do not appear to be life threatening.
The driver was taken for a drug/alcohol test following the crash. Results are not yet available.
The school district is meeting with their bus contractor, Muccio Transportation, to re-evaluate bus stops for safety.
