Artist from across the state have a chance to showcase their art at a gallery in downtown Altoona.
For 40 years the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art (SAMA) has been helping local artist share their work.
Barbara Hollander has been overseeing SAMA for the last 18 years.
She says, ” It’s always fabulous because I try to show local artist, regional artist, as well as our permanent collection which numbers over 4,500 pieces.”
The Altoona location is just one of four locations for SAMA. They also have locations in Loretto, Johnstown, and Ligonier Valley.
Hollander says the three exhibits in the Altoona building changes three times a year.
The gallery is free to the public, so everyone may enjoy the art. Hollander says donations, though, are appreciated. They do occasionally have fundraising events to help keep the doors open.
Hollader says, “If you don’t have hear and soul then you don’t have a town.”
