Police dashcam video shows a car slamming head-on into a tow truck stopped on a road in Ohio.

The crash sent two people to the hospital.

Scott Noll reports that Fairview Park Police called for a tow truck to impound the car.

They say the driver didn’t have a valid license. But as the tow truck driver walked to the car’s passenger side, dashcam video shows what that driver didn’t see.

At the top of the screen, headlights were veering right toward the tow truck.

“‘We’re going to need a couple squads out here,” said the police officer.

The tow truck driver was trapped under the bed of his own truck. You can hear him yell to officers, ‘hurry, hurry.’

The driver that hit him was trapped in the mangled wreckage of a 2017 Acura.

“I can tell you from what I saw from the video, it did not appear like it was breaking when it struck the truck,” said Lt. Paul Shepard, Fairview Park Police.

Investigators still aren’t sure how fast the car was going. It is also not clear, why the driver crossed left of center, drifted across another lane, and slammed head-on into the truck just after 4 a.m.

“Right now we’re trying to determine whether alcohol or any other drug of abuse was involved. That’s going to take time,” said Shepard.

The driver of the car was seriously injured and had to be cut out of his car, then rushed to the hospital.

Investigators aren’t releasing his name at this time. They are only saying that he’s 35 years old and from Cleveland.

The 53-year-old tow truck driver was a familiar face to Fairview Park Police.

This crash, they say, hit close to home.

“It’s like a family. So we get to see them a lot over and over again, so it’s still, here they were out to help us and this accident happened, so it does have an effect and we’re praying for his safe and quick recovery,” said Shepard.

The tow truck driver underwent surgery on his crushed leg Monday morning.

Police say this is a reminder for drivers to slow down and pay extra attention any time they see flashing lights.
