For the third straight day, brush fires have kept local fire departments busy.

Monday afternoon in Clearfield County several brush fires were reported including one along Sandy Ridge in Osceola Mills.

There have been no reports of injury and there is not believed to be any homes in that area.

In Blair County, fire crews were able to get the upper hand on a stubborn brush fire near Penn State Altoona. One resident said he was doing some landscaping when he smelled smoke and called 9-1-1.

“When we first saw the fire it was maybe 100 feet across. It spread quickly, maybe several hundred yards within 20 minutes.”, said Colin Lenox.

Soon after the fire was under control, Logan Township officials implemented a ban on all open burning.

In Elk County, the fire danger was upgraded to “Very High”.

What does a Very High fire danger mean?  Fires will start easily from most causes. The fires will spread rapidly and have quick increase in intensity, right after ignition.

Essentially, you should not take a risk.  Do not burn over the next several days.  Wait for a wetter more humid day.
