(WBRE/WYOU-TV) – Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one person injured.
Around 1:00am Friday, Pottsville Police and State Police responded to reports of an armed individual on the 500 block of Mahantongo Street, who reportedly fired a weapon.
Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojiechowsky said officers identified the suspect as 32 year old Jose Cruz of Allentown. When officers approached Cruz, he displayed a handgun as he began to leave the scene.
A PA State Trooper tased Cruz, who then allegedly pointed his handgun at the officers. Two Pottsville Police Officers then shot at Cruz.
He was taken into custody, and then transported to the hospital. No word on his condition at this time.
No officers were injured.
The shooting investigation is ongoing.
