Just across the Jefferson County line into Indiana County, several departments battled a fire near Valier for several hours.
It happened around 1 p.m. on Smith Road, several miles southwest of Punxsutawney.
One of the men who lived there, Alvin Miller, said he set some weeds on fire to help his field, but it got out of control.
Officials say if you are responsible for starting a brush fire, even accidentally, it could cost you a hefty fine.
The DCNR is investigating and Miller could face charges.
