The Saint Francis University Community Blanketeers Collection began Jan. 16.

For 11 years, the Blanketeers have collected quilted, crocheted, knitted and embroidered blankets to donate to children in need, with over 1,200 blankets going to kids in Blair, Cambria, Clearfield and Somerset Counties.

“We sew a tag in each blanket that says ‘Saint Francis University Community Blanketeers,’ so it’s very rewarding when you hear somebody received the blanket and to hear their positive comments on it,” Melita O’Donnell, the executive assistant to the Office of the Provost, said.

The blanket collection runs through March 17.

Officials ask that all blankets be new and handmade in a smoke-free environment. The crib holding the blankets in Scotus Hall will be donated to a family in need.
