Cyclists gathered in Tipton, Blair County to raise awareness for bike safety.
They were inspired to hold the event after two local cyclists were hit by cars while riding. One was seriously injured, and the other was killed. About 100 riders gathered for the ride. They say that Blair County is friendly for cyclists, but they want to increase awareness for safety.
“We as cyclists have to take care of ourselves, and be smart on the road,” ride leader Chris Ressler said. “Also, drivers need to understand that because there is a berm there, it doesn’t that we can be in it.”
Today’s event was held ahead of the MS Ride which is a 150-mile ride from Hollidaysburg to State College and back to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis on July 23 and 24. They’re expecting about 600 cyclists.
