Bell ringers hope for donation dollars

It’s that time of year for the sound of ringing bells and collecting donations for the Salvation Army.

The kettle manager in Ridgway says they’ve been ringing since Nov. 12, with a goal of raising $55,000, after they topped that amount last year.

They’re ringing at five locations, including this St. Marys Save-a-lot, two at Wal-Mart, and two more in Johnsonburg and Ridgway.

“It’s hard to find people to help ring bell. We love to offer people who’d like to volunteer, it’s a great organization to volunteer with,” says kettle manager John Youngmark.

Youngmark says these funds will stay in Ridgway’s Salvation Army for programs such as electric bill assistance and the food pantry.

The bell ringing will run through Christmas Eve. They’ll also have a Kettle-A-Thon on Saturday, Dec. 17, in Ridgway.
