ALTOONA – churches in the area will be holding their own remembrance services.

Organizers are stressing that everyone is welcome to attend the services – it’s not for one particular group of people.

They want to honor the life of the nine victims in Charleston, but also stand up for what they say is right.

“Maybe if we can stand up and say with them hate won’t win, then that can make a difference,” said Bishop Michael Rhyne, Allegheny Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. “Little by little we can all make a difference and change this world for the better.”

Bishop Rhyne was friends with Rev. Clementa Pickney who was killed in the shooting. He said he two made plans just weeks ago to get together.

He wants everyone to remember the good he did instead the tragedy that happened.

Grace Lutheran Church in State College, Davidsville Evangelical Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church in Hollidaysburg will hold services this Wednesday.
