Police are still investigating the death of a young Ridgway boy inside an apartment yesterday.
We were back in town today and have the latest on the case.
The coroner says an autopsy was done today and right now she’s still investigating and is not releasing any results.
Interim borough manager Paul McCurdy says he put a sign barring entry to the apartment around 10 a.m. because they learned due to the police investigation on Wednesday that the apartment is unsanitary, full of trash and mess, and “no one can live there.”
It was around 8 a.m. on Wednesday that police say they went to the 100 block of Main Street after an aunt and uncle called them about a nephew who was staying with them in an upstairs apartment.
The coroner says the 5-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after. The coroner’s office says the autopsy was done this morning in Erie.
“He was small. He had a lot of energy and he was clean and well taken care of,” says family friend’s neighbor Phyliis Anders, who says she just saw the boy on Saturday.
Police Chief Ralph Tettis said yesterday it was thought the boy had died sometime overnight.
Coroner Michelle Muccio says via e-mail that any results will be given pending all final lab, toxicological and evidentiary findings.
