The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections will announce the closure of two state prisons, Thursday.

None of the potential five on the list are in the region, but once they close the two prisons, 2,500 inmates will be sent to other prisons. Inmates could potentially be moved to SCI Rockview and SCI Benner, bringing the system to 109 percent capacity.

The Pennsylvania State Correctional Officers Association rallied in the State Capitol Monday against the closure, raising concerns over the new capacity of prisons and possible increase in assaults on staff.
