Christmas is just around the corner, and the Logan Valley Mall in Altoona is giving the gift of new decorations.

The shopping center has said “So long!” to its old Christmas display items which were used for nearly 15 years.

With help from Santa’s helpers from Parker 3D, designers including Ray Paton were able to create a holiday set.

With a 36-foot-tall tree and festive lights, Joy Weidel, the mall’s marketing director, said she’s looking at every detail.

“We’re striving for perfection, we want to make sure that everything is just right,” Weidel said.

A dazzling display is what helps attract customers and compete with online shopping.

According to the National Retail Federation, last year online holiday shopping raked in over $600 billion nation wide.

While that number is expected to rise this year, Weidel said she hopes the new holiday centerpiece attracts local shoppers.

“An experience at the shopping mall is very important. As our customers come, we really want to wow them and give them something to talk about and think that families, young and old will really enjoy what we have,” Weidel said.

You can take a photo with Santa or hop on board the train.

The train tracks take you through tunnels including six LCD television screens, which send you through a winter wonderland and Santa’s workshop.

“The challenge is really maintaining that spirit of Christmas while making it feel cutting edge, interesting and something that really just catches the eye,” Paton said.

Meet and greets with Santa begin Saturday, Nov. 12 and ends on Christmas Eve.
