The Johnstown Area Heritage Association (JAHA) is planning an event on Sunday, March 26th to commemorate the anniversary. It’s at the Johnstown Flood Museum and will show new digitized pictures of the 1936 flood.
Museum officials said it’s important to remember the floods because they represent the city’s strength.
“This is kind of a heroic story that Johnstown’s been faced with adversity and managed to recover,” said Richard Burkert, the president of JAHA.
JAHA officials are raising money to update the Johnstown Flood Museum to include more information about the 1936 and 1977 floods. They also plan to add more technology into the updated exhibits.
