While kids are busy writing their Christmas lists, a girl in Cambria County says she couldn’t come up with a birthday wish list and decided she would rather help others.
“I love animals and I really didn’t know what I wanted for my birthday,” Emma Page tells us.
So, instead of blowing out the candles and making a birthday wish for herself, “I already had so many things. I thought it would be nice to just donate stuff,” the 10-year-old explains.
She decided she would rather provide supplies to her furry friends.
“I sent out invitations to my class and a couple of other friends. It said to bring in donations to the humane society.”
Around a dozen kids came to her birthday party. Emma says some brought donations and others gave money.
“Instead of some people giving donations, they just gave us money so we could buy the donations.”
A few days after the party, Emma and her family packed up the car with the new supplies and headed to the Cambria County Humane Society to drop them off.
“It’s important because not all animals have such great things.”
She says her friends loved the idea. Emma’s favorite kind of animal is a dog because she says they are playful, but she emphasizes that she loves all animals.
As Emma walked away from the humane society that day, she didn’t leave empty handed.
“I had one dog already and then I got two cats here,” she says.
