MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WCCO) — Minutes before the jury walked into a 19th-floor courtroom, you could hear a pin drop.

The silence was overpowering.

Separated by only a few seats, the family of Justine Rusczyk Damond and Mohamed Noor looked straight ahead.

Six Hennepin County Sheriff Deputies flanked the families, prepared to offer support when and if needed.

The jury walked in as they have since April 9th, this time prepared to present their verdict to the judge.

You could feel the tension in the air as the verdicts were read… second-degree murder, not guilty… Mohamed Noor’s father, who was rocking back and forth in his seat, stopped.

Third-degree murder, GUILTY.

Don Damond, Justice Rusczyk Damond’s fiance, burst into tears.

Second-degree manslaughter, GUILTY.

Damond continued to cry, Justine’s sister in law tried to comfort him by putting her arm around him.

By this time, Noor’s father was sitting back in his chair, hand over face, he appeared paralyzed, stuck in the moment.

“This is a solid jury verdict and we believe it will be upheld on appeal,” Mike Freeman said.

Noor did not look back at his family when deputies put handcuffs on and took him into custody.
