New York police mourning the loss of a State Trooper

State Police and law enforcement across New York are mourning the loss of a State Trooper tragically killed in a crash on his way to work in Glen, Fulton County.

Ayla Ferrone reported on how he is being remembered.

Trooper Jeremy Vannostrand is being remembered by State Police officials as a hardworking public servant and a family man, calling it a massive loss to their organization and the capital region as a whole.

“And the community at large. Which loses the service of a tremendous public servant. Someone who devoted his entire life to public service,” said Superintendent George Beach.

The 36-year-old was a 6-year veteran of the State Police joining the force in 2012 and had worked as a corrections officer in the eight years prior.

“During those six years Trooper Vannostrand served at SP Middletown and SP Liberty, and at Troop G at SP Granville and at his latest assignment at SP Fonda,” said Beach.

Trooper Vannostrand died Tuesday morning at Albany Medical Center after being involved in a traffic accident.

Dozens of State Troopers and other law enforcement arriving at the hospital through the morning to show their support and pay their respects.

“The state police is a large organization but it is a family,” said Beach. “And we all take these deaths very personally. Very personally. This is a true tragedy.”

Superintendent Beach said this year had been difficult on this law enforcement agency.

“It’s a brotherhood and a sisterhood,” said Beach. “This has been a particularly bad year. From the last trooper death it has only been about four and a half months.”

Trooper Vannostrand is survived by his wife, daughter, parents, and two brothers.
