House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has fought off an uprising from members of her own party, who said it was time for new leadership.

Pelosi appears to have secured the votes she needs to become Speaker of the House, by agreeing to term limits for the leadership.

“I feel very comfortable with what they’re proposing,” Pelosi said.

The deal limits the top three democratic leaders to three terms. They could only serve a fourth term if they had the support of two-thirds of the party.

“Look, we brought about change, there’s going to be change in the Democratic leadership office. It’s going to happen sooner rather than later,” Ohio Democrat Representative Tim Ryan.

Congressman Ryan has been a leading voice in the effort to oust Pelosi, saying it’s time to make way for a new generation.

But he now says he’ll support her, under the terms of the deal.

“That will allow us to make sure no one consolidates too much power. It gives us an opportunity to change,” says Ryan.

Ryan says the deal is retroactive.

2019 would be Pelosi’s third term, meaning she could at most, serve four more years.

“That’s a long time//they were saying six months to begin with,” Pelosi said.

Ryan tells us the next leadership teams need to include Midwestern lawmakers.

“If we’re rebuild the blue wall in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, we need to make sure that we have leaders from those areas, understand those areas can campaign in those areas and win those area,” said Ryan.

Ryan says settling this internal debate will help Democrats challenge President Trump next year.

“I know we ruffled a few feathers along the way, but that’s all part of the process,” said Ryan.

He says Democratic lawmakers will now be united, when they take control of the House in January.
