BURBANK, Ca., (WTAJ) — The Walt Disney Company announced its long-awaited streaming service, Disney+. It’s a service meant to rival Netflix and the upcoming Apple TV+.
Our brands serve a broad array of consumers across all the world.
-Kevin Mayer, Chairman, Direct-to-consumer and International
Disney+ is set to launch in the United States on November 12, 2019, and will be $6.99 a month, or $69.99 a year. It’ll be available on smart TVs, PlayStation 4, Roku devices and other mobile devices. They will slowly launch to other countries up through 2023, as of right now.
Not only will Disney+ include existing movies and TV shows from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel but it will showcase originals including a live-action Lady and the Tramp, and a live-action Star Wars TV show.
They plan to have more than 35 original series and 10 original movies and specials in the first year.
Disney+ went a slightly different route to announce their project details compared to Apple TV+. Instead of celebrities talking about the future of TV, they had exclusive teasers. We saw a glimpse of the Star Wars series that takes place five years after Return of the Jedi and unseen footage of Frozen II, Toy Story 4, and even Avengers Endgame.
The President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, also spoke about original Marvel TV shows for Disney+
These shows will be on the same level of quality you’ve grown accustomed to from Marvel Studios with major ramifications on other series and films.
