House Democrats are rallying support for an immigration bill that would grant a pathway to citizenship for “Dreamers.”

The “Dream and Promise Act” would provide permanent protection and a path to citizenship for “Dreamers,” children who were brought to the U.S. illegally.

Texas Congressman Lloyd Doggett says the bill would also provide protections for people with temporary protected status and those covered by deferred enforced departure.

“The young people have so much to contribute to our country,” Representative Doggett stated, and went on to say “they’ve already cleared a criminal background check and they deserve some certainty.”

House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, is calling on both parties to pass the bill when Congress returns to Washington, D.C. next week.

Senate Republicans say they are reluctant to support a stand alone bill because the president won’t sign it.

President Trump is firm that any immigration bill must also include funding for border security.
