Evan Hinkley

Evan reports out of WTAJ’s State College Bureau.

For over a year, Evan has covered breaking news, crime, court, political and feature stories coming out of Centre County.

This includes live breaking reports of a bar shooting and homicide in State College, an officer-involved shooting in State College, and a fatal plane crash in the mountains of Taylor Township.

Evan continues to cover the most recent rulings in the Penn State Beta Theta Pi Fraternity Hazing Case, and the Penn State Child Sex Abuse Scandal.

You can rely on Evan for thorough election coverage each May and November, including candidate profiles. He’s given live reports on candidates for president, Congress, and covered President Donald Trump’s visit to the Flight 93 Memorial on September 11, 2018.

In his featured reports, Evan has told you about the look for alien life, beetles that can save an ecosystem, and how Mt. Nittany continues to be preserved.

Evan’s reports on extraordinary people to showcase the wide range of talents, compassion, and community outreach in Happy Valley.

He comes from the heartland of Lancaster County where horse and buggies, antique markets, and shoo-fly pies are a common sight.  Evan comes to WTAJ after reporting as an intern for Blue Ridge News-11 in Northern Lancaster. He graduated from Elizabethtown College, majoring in communications and reporting for the college’s TV station ECTV-40, where he earned an AP award for an investigative news story.

In his spare time, Evan enjoys running and cycling on the beautiful trails of State College. He is also an avid tennis player, looking for any willing opponent. Speaking of sports, Evan lives and breathes Philadelphia sports, and you’d never confuse him for a Pittsburgh fan…but don’t worry he’s a classy fan who only cheers and never boo’s.

You may also catch Evan singing while playing the piano…Frank Sinatra is definitely his favorite crooner.

Don’t be shy, say “hi” when he’s out and about in Centre County. He’s happy to call State College home.
