Legendary director, Steven Spielberg has made some of the most-beloved movies of the past few decades.
But it seems he doesn’t like competition from streaming services.
Spielberg is trying to create new rules with the Academy that could block fils made by Netflix or Amazon Prime from Oscar eligibility.
He plans to propose changes at the Academy’s upcoming board meeting, but it’s not clear exactly what those changes might entail.
A spokesperson for his production compay, however, told Indiewire, “Steven feels strongly about the difference between the streaming and theatrical situation.”
Spielberg is a member of the academy’s board of governors.
He has previously said that films that don’t run in a theater or have limited theatrical releases shouldn’t be able to compete for Oscars.
