George Batrus from Tom & Joe’s Diner in Altoona shares his recipe for Lebanese Meat Tarts.

Lebanese Meat Tarts

   Ingredients:

   Ground Beef

   Diced Onions

   Lemon Juice

   Pine Nuts

   Pizza Dough

   Flour

   Corn meal

   Ground All Spice

   Salt & Pepper

Directions:

1. Prepare the dough by rolling it out with flour and cornmeal

2. Brown the ground beef, diced onions and pine nuts in a skillet chopping up the ground beef frequently to make it into very small pieces.

3. Drain the excess grease out of the skillet and add lemon juice.

4. Add salt, pepper, and all spice and mix on low heat.

5. Remove the ground beef ‘filling’ from the heat and let cool slightly.

6. Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into oval type sections and fill the center with the ground beef mixture.

7. Roll the dough over the filling and fold the ends over half way through so the ends are tucked under.

8. Place the meat tarts on an oiled cookie sheet, drizzle with olive oil and bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes.

9. After 10 minutes, flip the meat tarts, drizzle again with oil and bake 4 more minutes.
