As a child, I was terrified of thunderstorms. This led me to frequently watch the news and weather coverage. This fear turned into a fascination with weather, which helped me understand weather patterns. I pursued my passion at The Pennsylvania State University, where I earned my B.S. in Meteorology. While at Penn State, I was an active member of the Campus Weather Service.
Before working at WTAJ, I was in Hagerstown, MD at HMTV6 as the morning meteorologist. I then moved back into Central Pennsylvania to become a meteorologist here at WTAJ. I am now one of the few meteorologists in Central Pennsylvania to have earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society.
I love being a part of the community here in Central Pennsylvania and volunteer with many organizations in the region. I’m always looking for opportunities to give back. I also love being able to go on classroom visits to promote STEM and help kids understand science and weather. If you have any volunteering or classroom opportunities you can contact me at cshields@wtajtv.com
When I’m not forecasting the weather, you can find me attempting to keep plants alive and taking photos of flowers or clouds. In the fall, you can find me on Saturdays cheering on the Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium.
