HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Officials are urging residents of Blair County to be alert to a phone scam going around.
Residents and businesses may be getting phone calls from a male identifying himself as a “Deputy/Lieutenant” with the Blair County Sheriff’s Office, stating that there is an arrest warrant for the recipient.
The individual(s) responsible for the calls are using a phone app which allows the calling number to show as the Blair County Sheriff’s Office phone number, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Blair County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents that their office, or other Blair County law enforcement agencies, will never call and ask to settle outstanding filings, warrants, or paperwork via phone.
While they will make phone calls providing information about filings, warrants, or paperwork, they will never request payment or ask for personal information over the phone.
Officials are reminding those who recieve this call to contact your local police agency to determine if the call is legitimate or a scam.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents or businesses to never give personal information or account information to anyone over the phone.
