A portion of Route 56 is shut down after mid-day crash.

Officials say a tractor trailer hit a utility pole, pulling down wires near Gregg Avenue in Johnstown. Traffic is being detoured around the scene.  Truck traffic is not permitted through the area.  Large vehicles traveling east are being stopped in Seward, or re-routed because they can’t travel on the residential streets.  If possible, motorists should use Cramer Pike (Route 403) when traveling in/out of the city.

The roadway is expected to be closed for an extended period of time until repairs are made.
