Two men are behind bars after officials seized what they believe is a historical amount of crystal meth Blair County.

This meth ring spanned Centre and Blair counties.

An undercover officer seized 3.8 pounds of crystal meth with a total street value of more than $173,000.

The agent made 7 purchases of crystal meth from David Barr and Trevor Winters between February and June.

Officials said in a news conference that Barr and Winters were the leader of this meth ring.

“Typically what we’re doing is we’re buying off of street level dealers and what we totally cut that out here and we’re able to get into the sources so it resulted in much less methamphetamine from these guys being distributed in the community,” explained assistant district attorney Peter Weaks.

Blair County District Attorney Rich Consiglio says he believes this ring had the potential to be a multi-million dollar operation.

“This stuff wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all the money they making do this. You can see from what we purchased it cost the different agencies almost 19 thousand dollars just to buy it so that’s what the cost is on the street to make these purchases,” said Consiglio.

Officials believe that Winters and Barr weren’t responsible for making the meth, just distribution.

“The amounts here are far in excess than what you would get out of the one pot labs we see in Blair County,” said Weaks, “those are incredibly dangerous they just don’t put out the yield so this is probably not from this type of cook.”

This is still an ongoing investigation by the Blair County District Attorney’s office, the Centre County authorities office and the Altoona Police Department.

The money used for these undercover deals came from the Attorney General’s office and Operation Our Town.

Barr’s bail was set at $100,000 and Winter’s is $150,000.
