Folks in Huston Township say Verizon Wireless is often leaving them hanging with slow or sometimes no internet, and the poor connection seems to be impacting the entire community.
Leslie Demmert, who lives in Julian of Huston Township, said she relies on Verizon for service but feels like she’s essentially dishing out cash for nothing in return.
Ever since Memorial Weekend, she’s encountered major connection issues.
And she’s not alone; other residents are having the same problem.
Nicole Wert, a Huston Township Resident, said it’s time for the provider to make a change.
She says the poor service has become a community dilemma.
Residents have created a petition, listing a lot of frustrated Verizon customers.
Wert said her home internet turns off unexpectedly, surging her data plan that creates overage fees.
And with school around the corner, she’s concerned it’ll impact her son’s academics.
“You can’t use the excuse the dog ate my homework, you have to use the excuse, Verizon didn’t allow me to do my homework,” Wert said.
Weak or no signal is also hitting local business.
For Weldon Equipment in Union Township, which neighbors Huston, everything is online from payroll, ordering parts, to the point of sales system.
Jake Weldon, Owner of Weldon Equipment, said “we’re so frustrated right now that something has to happen. And unfortunately out here in the country we don’t have a lot of options.”
He said in the year 2017 the internet is a business’ lifeline.
“You can’t forget about us out here, I mean we’re a business we’re supporting the community, our taxes are filed online, sales tax, employment taxes,” Weldon said.
With each signature, folks hope Verizon can bring a solution to the table.
“And it’s not just for us in Julian or in Huston Township, it’s all rural commentates,” Demmert said.
WTAJ has reached out to Verizon in both the landline and wireless departments.
The representatives say they are actively working to figure out what is causing the issues.
