Police say 31 year old James McCleary was driving south on Osgood Drive, just outside of the Logan Town Centre, when he lost control of his vehicle.

McCleary then crossed over four lanes and struck the median. That’s when police say he could have stopped and avoided any further damage. Instead, police say he went another 200 feet into opposing traffic and struck the SUV of Jerome and Kathleen Hayward. The Hayward’s died as a result of their injuries.

McCleary’s Jeep rolled off of the Hayward’s SUV, rolled over, and then struck another vehicle. Those passengers were treated and released by UPMC Altoona.

McCleary is facing 2 counts homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault and DUI. His blood work revealed traces of THC in his system at the time of the crash. McCleary posted $200,000 unsecured bail. His preliminary hearing has not been set.
