Today, the State College Area School Board plans to vote on a proposal that would extend the school day for elementary students.

That plan would mean kids in elementary school would begin class at 8:10 a.m. and the school day would last about 45 minutes longer.

Teachers want to use that extra time for core classes like reading and math.

That proposal would also change the current start times for the middle and high schools from 8:10 to 8:40 a.m.

If the proposal moves forward after today’s meeting, a final vote is expected to happen in December.
