ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — An Altoona Police Officer was stabbed by a used drug syringe poking through the pocket of Craig Wojcik during an arrest.
Police say they were looking for Wojcik to serve a bench warrant for failure to appear on two previous preliminary hearings.
On May 8, Altoona Police found Wojick on the street. When asked if he had any weapons, Wojcik replied he may have a knife in his pocket.
While the officer patted Wojcik down, the officer was jabbed by an uncapped used syringe poking through Wojcik’s pants, causing the officer to bleed. Police say Wojcik admitted to using heroin in that particular syringe.
Police say they also found methamphetamine and another uncapped syringe in Wojcik’s pocket. Wojcik is also believed to have some sort of disease.
Wojcik is charged with Simple Assault with a Hypodermic Needle and drug offenses.
The Police officer was treated at UMPC Altoona and given exposure medication. He will have to complete periodic testing to make sure he did not catch the disease Wojcik has.
Wojcik’s bail is set at $2,500.
