It’s Foster Care Awareness Month here in Pennsylvania and across the rest of the nation.

Right now, there are 56 families that are licensed Centre County to take in foster children, but fewer than half of those families can take in more children.

“Our kids might not look like us, we might be the conventional family, but they are our kids,” Hollie Zimmerman said.

Paul and Hollie Zimmerman believe they were called to become foster parents.

“I had a lot of experiences in my personal life watching my nieces go through foster care and it’s just always been…something that’s been sitting in my heart and ache that I needed to fill almost,” Hollie Zimmerman said.

“I’m certainly glad we’ve started this journey together and I think we’ve seen some amazing things, and I’m sure we’ll continue to see some amazing things,” Paul Zimmerman said.

The two have adopted all three of their foster children, but know there is a need in Centre County for more homes.

Centre County Children and Youth Services are actively looking to find homes for at least six children. And the Zimmerman’s have one piece of advice for anyone thinking foster a child.

“Don’t be scared. It can be very overwhelming, especially as you start the process and start walking through everything but don’t be scared. Jump in and do it because it’s going to rock your world in a good way,” Hollie Zimmerman said.
