SYKESVILLE, Pa. (WTAJ) — On July 12, 2007, police discovered that Joey Lynn Offutt was missing after a fire destroyed her home. The cause of the fire was arson, and the remains of her newborn child Alexis Jr were found at the sight.
The mother of three had not spoken with friends or family since July 3rd.
Due to a difficult pregnancy that she was still recovering from, her loved ones assumed the lack of contact was due to her needing some space. Self isolating was typical behavior for Joey when she felt stressed or overwhelmed.
However, the family had began to worry on July 11 when Joey missed an appointment with her home healthcare nurse, who came to check up on her and received no answer at the door.
A few days later on July 16, police found Joey’s red four door Saturn 1992 parked perfectly in an apartment complex where she used to live with her fiancee.
The State College location was 70 miles away from her home in Sykesville.
The past 13 years have provided no leads, only more confusion. Joey’s family is hoping that someone who knows or has seen something will finally speak up so that they may give them the answers they need to lay their loved one to rest.
Joey’s newborn son who was found in the fire will not be buried until he can be buried with his mother.
