More than 100 emergency service officials were in Somerset County for the Annual State Hazmat Conference.

There was four days of training at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.

The goal was to bring advanced training to first responders in hazmat situations. There were about 142 first responders from 24 counties and six states.

Officials said this training helped them prepare and adapt to emergency situations that are constantly changing.

“Hazardous materials teams now have advanced technology and a lot of different tools in their toolbox they use to go out and respond to these highly technical incidents that you just didn’t have in the past,” said Joel Landis, President of of the PA Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians.

“The technology has made it better for us but with technology you need to train,” said Landis.

The conference was also a chance to network and learn from each other’s experiences.
